For the Weekdays of Ordinary Time the Lectionary has a two year cycle of readings — I and II. The Gospel reading is common to both cycles; the First Reading and Psalm are different. As a rule Year I corresponds to odd-numbered years (2009, 2011 etc.) and Year II to even-numbered years.
First Week in Ordinary Time
- When the Epiphany is celebrated on either 7 or 8 January theBaptism of the Lord is celebrated on Monday of the first week in Ordinary Time,
- When this occurs the readings given for Monday may be added to those given for those for Tuesday, so that the beginning of each book may be read.
